Free GST invoice generator
A complete GST invoice in your browser — GSTIN for both parties, HSN and SAC codes on every line, and a place of supply that decides CGST plus SGST or IGST for you. No account, no watermark, no limit, and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Built for GST, not adapted to it
Supplier and customer GSTIN, HSN or SAC per line item, and tax that splits correctly the moment you choose the place of supply.
Nothing leaves your device
There is no sign-up and no server-side storage. Your invoice lives in this tab. Download a draft file if you want to continue later.
UPI QR on the invoice
Add a UPI ID and a QR for the balance due is drawn onto the document, generated in your browser rather than by a payment service.
Rupees, rounding and words
Amounts group the Indian way — 12,34,567.89 — the amount in words reads in lakh and crore, and CGST and SGST always come out equal to the paise.
Questions people ask about GST invoices
Can I create an invoice without a GST number?
Yes. Set the tax setup to none and the document comes out with no tax lines on it at all. If you are not registered under GST you should not be charging GST, and what you issue is technically a bill of supply rather than a tax invoice — the same information, without the tax.
How does the tool decide between CGST + SGST and IGST?
From the place of supply. Your own GSTIN carries your state code in its first two characters, and the place of supply names the destination — when the two are the same state the tax splits into CGST and SGST, or CGST and UTGST in a union territory without its own legislature, and when they differ it becomes a single IGST charge. Choosing the place of supply switches the tax setup for you with a note explaining why. A customer GSTIN is optional, because an unregistered customer does not have one; when you do enter it, its state code has to agree with the place of supply.
Do I need to restart my invoice numbers every financial year?
GST requires a serial number that is unique within a financial year, so most businesses begin a fresh series each April — for example 2026-27/001. The invoice number is a free text field here, so you can use whatever prefix and starting number your books already follow.
What is an HSN or SAC code, and do I need one?
HSN codes classify goods and SAC codes classify services. A freelancer billing services usually needs a SAC — 998314 covers IT design and development, for instance. There is a code field on every line item so you can record the correct one against each entry.
Can I add a UPI QR code to the invoice?
Yes. Add your UPI ID on the Finish step and a QR code for the balance due is drawn onto the invoice. It is generated inside your browser from the amount and the UPI ID, so no payment details are sent anywhere.
Not registered under GST? Invoicing without a GST number opens the editor with tax already switched off, and explains what a bill of supply has to carry and when you actually have to register.
Billing outside India? The general invoice generator drops the GST fields and bills in forty currencies with VAT, GST or sales tax under your own name for it. More answers are on the FAQ page.
Would rather work in a spreadsheet? There are four free invoice templates in Excel — a GST tax invoice whose Supply type dropdown switches CGST + SGST to IGST, a freelancer version with SAC codes, a bill of supply with no tax columns, and a proforma. Every total is a formula, and none of them ask for an email address.
Only need the arithmetic? The reverse GST calculator takes an amount that already includes tax and gives you the taxable value, the tax inside it, and the CGST and SGST or IGST split — no invoice required.
These notes are general guidance, not tax advice. Tax treatment depends on your registration status and the nature of the supply — confirm anything you are unsure about with your accountant.
